Data Sources
Every data point on glp1versus.com is sourced from one of the following:
- FDA prescribing information(official drug labels) — the primary source for approved indications, dosing, contraindications, and boxed warnings
- Published clinical trials(NEJM, JAMA, Lancet, Diabetes Care) — peer-reviewed efficacy and safety data from trials including STEP, SURMOUNT, SUSTAIN, PIONEER, REWIND, SCALE, and DURATION
- ClinicalTrials.gov— trial registration, design, and reported results
- FDA press announcements— new approvals, label changes, safety communications, and enforcement actions
- Official manufacturer pricing— list prices, savings programs, and self-pay options from Novo Nordisk, Eli Lilly, and AstraZeneca patient websites
What We Compare
Every comparison page includes these data points:
- Active ingredient and drug class
- FDA-approved indications
- Efficacy (weight loss %, A1C reduction) from the largest available trial
- Side effect frequency and severity (scored 1-5 from FDA labels)
- Dosing: starting, maintenance, max, frequency, route, titration
- Cost: list price, typical insurance copay range, savings card
- Available forms (pen, vial, tablet)
Editorial Process
Our comparison data is structured (stored as typed data files, not free-text) to minimize errors. Editorial verdicts are written separately and reviewed by a medical professional before publication.
We follow three principles:
- Cite everything. Every efficacy number, side effect rate, and cost figure links back to its source.
- No off-label claims. We report FDA-approved indications only. Weight loss data for diabetes-only drugs is reported as observed in trials, not as a recommendation.
- Verdicts, not recommendations. Our “Quick Summary” sections describe what the data shows for different use cases. We never tell you what to take — that is your doctor’s role.
Updates
Drug data is reviewed monthly and updated when FDA labels change, new trial results are published, or pricing changes materially. Every page shows a “Last reviewed” date.
Limitations
- Efficacy data comes from different trials with different populations, durations, and endpoints. Direct comparison across trials has limitations. Where head-to-head trial data exists (e.g., SURMOUNT-5), we note it.
- Cost data is approximate. Actual prices vary by pharmacy, insurance plan, location, and eligibility for savings programs.
- Side effect frequencies come from FDA labels which may aggregate across different doses and populations.
